Built with Purpose & Precision: Real-World Custom Fabrication Projects & Stories

Flyover Block: Modern Metalwork Meets Urban Design

Located at the gateway to Calgary’s vibrant downtown core, the Flyover Block project stands as a striking example of how architectural design and custom metal fabrication can transform a cityscape. As part of the City of Calgary’s $12.5M rehabilitation of the 4th Avenue Flyover, Calgary’s longest bridge structure, this new development combines infrastructure renewal with bold, modern living.

MAF Metal Alloy Fabrication was proud to play a key role in this urban revitalization, fabricating and installing the custom architectural metal casing that now wraps around the six-storey Flyover Block apartment building. Designed with a clean, modern aesthetic, the metal screening not only elevates the visual appeal of the building but also enhances privacy and defines the structure as a visual landmark for commuters entering downtown via the flyover.

Located just steps from the Bow River and adjacent to the emerging Flyover Park, the Flyover Block brings together over 65 micro-dwelling units, street-level retail, and a rooftop Sky Lounge, creating a lively, pedestrian-oriented community hub. MAF’s work on this project contributes to the transformation of Bridgeland’s eastern edge, adding a bold architectural statement to one of Calgary’s most high-profile intersections.

Metal Panel Cladding:
Glenbow Museum

As part of the transformative Glenbow Reimagined renovation, we contributed to a defining feature of Calgary’s future cultural landmark, custom-fabricated white dimpled metal panels that now wrap the building in a sleek, futuristic skin.

Visible from blocks away, this striking architectural exterior gives the Glenbow Museum a bold new identity. The crisp, matte white panels add texture, depth, and movement, creating a surface that shifts subtly in natural light and brings a contemporary vibrancy to the downtown skyline.

More than a design statement, this metal cladding is a symbol of the museum’s shift from a closed, bunker-like structure to an open and accessible community space. The panel system is part of a broader $205 million renovation that will reinvent Glenbow as the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture, a dynamic home for art, education, and engagement across eight accessible floors.

Through close collaboration with architects, designers, and builders, this façade upgrade reflects not only innovation in metal fabrication but a renewed purpose in how institutions welcome and inspire the public. This is more than a building, it’s a bold, bright canvas for Calgary’s cultural future.

Indigenous Art at the BMO Centre: Andrew Holloway

As one of the first public art installations in the newly redeveloped BMO Centre, this striking metalwork piece was designed by Andrew Holloway of Yethka Metalworks, a member of the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, and fabricated by MAF. Together, we brought to life a powerful tribute to the Elbow River Camp and its enduring place in Indigenous culture and Calgary Stampede history.

Guided by Holloway’s vision, MAF transformed his deeply symbolic design into a permanent sculpture. The work features iconic Treaty 7 imagery, towering mountains, sacred eagles, traditional tipis, and elders modelled after Holloway’s own grandparents. Each element tells a layered story of home, survival, and cultural continuity.

More than an artwork, the piece reflects on the role the Stampede has played as a rare safe space for Indigenous families to celebrate and practice their traditions. Through this collaboration, MAF helped ensure that Holloway’s story and the spirit of the Elbow River Camp will continue to resonate with generations to come.

Architectural Metalwork:
333 11th Avenue

Situated in the heart of Calgary’s Beltline, the entrance to 333 11th Avenue features a striking architectural enhancement, a custom-designed metal archway that frames the building’s main entryway with presence and precision. Fabricated by MAF, this unique installation combines form and function, creating a grand sense of arrival for tenants and visitors alike.

The structure spans the revolving door and flanking entry doors, with “333” prominently displayed above the central axis. The clean, modern lines of the arch complement the surrounding urban landscape while reinforcing the professional identity of the 16-storey commercial tower.

Owned and operated by Aspen Properties, the building itself boasts amenities like underground parking, a fitness facility, secure bike storage, and shared co-working spaces. Our contribution to the exterior entry reflects the same level of care and detail found throughout the building, setting the tone for the tenant experience from the very first step.

Branded First Impressions: Pomeroy Lodging

When it comes to first impressions, few elements carry more impact than a company’s entryway. For Pomeroy Lodging, a leading hospitality brand with deep roots in Western Canada, that first impression now begins with a bold, custom metal logo feature wall crafted by MAF Metal Alloy Fabrication.

Positioned just outside their corporate office entrance, this sleek, precision-cut metal logo piece was designed to reflect Pomeroy’s values of strength, longevity, and community investment. The architectural feature combines clean lines with a premium finish, setting the tone for the modern, people-first identity the company has built across its portfolio of hotels and properties.

As a company deeply committed to the communities it serves, Pomeroy wanted a statement piece that would stand the test of time, both visually and symbolically. MAF delivered a striking branded element that speaks to trust, craftsmanship, and vision, qualities that define both companies.

This collaboration is a testament to how functional design and thoughtful fabrication can elevate a space, enhance brand identity, and leave a lasting impression.

Custom Railings & Architectural Panels: Cowboys Casino

In the heart of Calgary’s Entertainment District, where Western culture meets modern energy, our custom metalwork brings Alberta’s identity to life at Cowboys Casino, formerly known as the iconic Stampede Casino.

We designed and fabricated decorative metal railings that line the space with purpose and pride. Between each railing post, stylized metal wheat motifs nod to Alberta’s agricultural legacy, a symbol also found on the provincial flag. These intricate patterns aren’t just ornamental; they’re a tribute to the province’s roots and resilience, grounding the venue in a strong sense of place.

Adding to the visual story, metal panel insets were created to fill architectural wall gaps throughout the building. At the heart of each piece: a cowboy boot emblem, an unmistakable salute to Calgary’s deep Stampede history and enduring Western spirit.

With its casino, restaurants, bars, and live entertainment space, Cowboys Casino is a year-round hub of celebration, and our custom metal features bring local legacy and craftsmanship front and center in this one-of-a-kind venue.

Custom Metalwork:
The CORE & Bankers Hall

In the heart of downtown Calgary, where culture, commerce, and community converge, our team helped shape the experience of The CORE Shopping Centre and Bankers Hall with detailed, functional metalwork that blends seamlessly into this dynamic urban environment.

Across both destinations, we fabricated and installed a series of custom architectural pieces, including stainless steel railings, polished elevator exterior panels, wayfinding directories, and sleek metal fountain spouts that now anchor the shared plaza space with elegance and durability.

These features are more than structural, they serve as everyday touchpoints in a space that welcomes thousands of visitors daily. From navigating the shops to pausing by the fountains, the metalwork subtly enhances the experience with refined craftsmanship and long-lasting performance.

Surrounded by over 120 shops, local retailers, eateries, and key connections to Calgary’s CTrain and downtown landmarks, The CORE and Bankers Hall are part of the pulse of the city, and we’re proud to have contributed to the details that hold it all together.

Custom Metalwork for a Busy Retail Hub: Southcentre Mall

MAF was proud to contribute to Southcentre Mall, one of Calgary’s busiest shopping destinations, with a range of custom metalwork solutions. This project included the railings throughout the mall, the main elevator panels, and custom metal fountain spouts, all designed for durability and everyday use.

The new railings provide safety and structure while matching the clean, modern design of the mall. Our team also worked on the main elevator, fabricating metal panels that offer a sleek and consistent look with the surrounding finishes.

One standout detail is the fountain, where we created custom metal spouts that add a subtle visual and functional element to the space. These components were built to last, withstand constant public use, and require minimal upkeep.

This project reflects MAF’s ability to blend strong, reliable fabrication with thoughtful design, supporting both form and function in public environments.
